Minimum fluidization velocity of binary mixtures

Abstract: The fast defluidization method was used to measure the minimum fluidization velocities of binary systems. Based on the experimental data obtained from the published literature and from this work, different correlations used for predicting the minimum fluidization velocities of binary systems were evaluated and compared. On a utilisC la mCthode de dkfluidisation rapide pour mesurer les vitesses minimales de fluidisation de systkmes binaires. “…The various variables involved are: 1-size of the small size particles(ds),2-size of the big size particle (db), 3density of small size particles(ρss), 4-density of big size particle(ρsb), 5-minimum fluidization velocity (Gmf), 6operating fluidization velocity(G), 7-total height of bed(ht) and 8-diameter of the column (Dc). hs is the height of small si2ze particles (1,2,3,4,5).…”

“…In many cases, distinct degrees of mixing or segregation are required. The fluidization behaviour of multicomponent particle beds has been the subject of a large number of experimental investigations in the last few decade (1)(2)(3)(4)(5) . This persistent research effort is motivated by the technical and economic importance of the industrial processes which contemplate the simultaneous contact of a gaseous stream with two or more solids.…”

“…With the advent of the 21st century, researchers (Zhang et al, 2006) emphasized the need for studies on the bed dynamics of the Geldart B type of particles and binary mixtures. Furthermore, experimental studies on binary mixtures gained importance at the end of the 20th century (Noda et al, 1986;Chyang et al, 1989) because the bed dynamics differed from the single-particle beds. In fluidized beds with binary systems, the fraction that mostly forms the top layer of the bed or the one that floats is called the flotsam, and the one at the bottom layer or the one that sinks is called the jetsam.…”
