Miospore Biozonation and age characterization of Upper Miocene - Pliocene sediments in well X, deep offshore Niger delta.

Abstract: Miospore biozonation carried out on ditch cutting rock samples has been used to delineate the Upper Miocene/Pliocene sediments in well X, deep offshore, Niger delta. The rock succession is characterized by the alternation of sand and shale of variable thicknesses with lateral gradation in grain size. The base of the studied interval is made of Black shales intercalating with medium to coarse grained, sub rounded to rounded sandstone and siltstone at intervals representing the paralic Agbada formation while the… Show more

“…Records of E. barbeitoensis were found only in the Miocene (Hoorn, 1994a;Jaramillo et al, 2011;Lorente, 1986;Muller et al, 1987;Rull, 1998). In Africa, G. magnaclavata and G. polygonalis are recorded until the late Miocene (Asadu & Ofuyah, 2017;Umeji, 2003).…”

“…In order to create a geological model and shed light on the petroleum systems, the science of petroleum exploration uses a variety of tools, including the integration of palynology with other geological disciplines like geophysics, sedimentology, geochemistry, and petrophysics . Numerous authors from the past and present (Rull, 2002, Asadu & Ofuyah, 2017, Lucas & Ononeme, 2019, Jacinta & Edward, 2019, Fadiya et al, 2020, as well as many others, have conducted numerous research investigations using specific distinctive palynomorph indicators found within sediments with regard to understanding the perception of age determination, stratigraphic biozonation, paleoenvironmental impact, paleo-ecological dominance, and paleo-climatic implications as well as the presence of petroleum and other minerals.…”
