“…miR-491-5p, miR-1307-3p, and miR-298, have also been recognized, as predictive tools of T2D in prediabetes patients [ 57 , 58 ]. In a recent study, Parrizas et al provided evidence for the existence of a circulating miRNA signature for prediabetes by identifying two different miRNAs, miR-10b and miR-223-3p, whose combination was able to differentiate between progressor and non-progressor prediabetic subjects at a stage at which other features, including glycaemia, are less useful in separating them [ 59 ]. That study was conducted on a subset of extracellular miRNAs enclosed inside microvesicles and highlights the ability of miRNA screening as a useful tool for adult subjects at risk of developing diabetes.…”

“…Insulin autoantibodies were negatively associated to miR-10b-5p [58]. miR-10b targeted components of the insulin signaling pathway [133]. Vitro studies showed the overexpression of miR-10b led to chemoresistance in CRC cells to 5-FU [134].…”

“…It is to note that the feasibility of using miR‐223 serum levels as biomarker is not only being exploited in cancer patients, but also in a wide range of other pathologies, ranging from neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson, Alzheimer and dementia (Jia & Liu, 2016 ; Mancuso et al, 2019 ; Wei et al, 2018 ) to arthritis (Dunaeva et al, 2018 ), diabetes (Parrizas et al, 2020 ) and bacterial peritonitis (Brook et al, 2019 ). Given the deep involvement of miR‐223 in inflammation and immune response, particularly in the respiratory tract (Bauernfeind et al, 2012 ; Dorhoi et al, 2013 ; Feng et al, 2017 ; Neudecker et al, 2017 ), it will not be surprising to discover that miR‐223 plays a central role in SARS‐CoV 2 pathogenesis and may be exploitable as either biomarker or therapeutic target.…”
