miR‑214 reduces cisplatin resistance by targeting netrin‑1 in bladder cancer cells

Abstract: miR‑214 has been reported to be downregulated in several cancer types, such as bladder cancer. However, its involvement in apoptosis and chemoresistance has not been investigated. The present study aimed to clarify the biological function of miR‑214 and potential mechanisms in chemoresistance of bladder cancer cells. Reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction demonstrated that miR‑214 was downregulated in bladder cancer tissues compared with the level in normal tissues. miR‑214 was downregula… Show more

“…Other researchers have reported that some microRNAs are involved in cisplatin resistance in BC. Liu et al showed that miRNA-214 could reduce cisplatin resistance by targeting netrin-1 [38]. Li et al demonstrated that decreased expression of miRNA-218 could contribute to resistance to cisplatin by suppressing glucose metabolism [39].…”

“…More importantly, miR-214 is reported to play a critical role in regulating the cellular response to chemotherapeutic agents, such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), cisplatin, and DOX. In bladder cancer, upregulation of miR-214 led to reversing cisplatin resistance (21).…”

“…Therefore, the impact of miR-214 on drug resistance is mediated through its modulatory function in AKT/BCL-2 axis. The miR-214 decreased chemo resistance in BCa tissues and cell lines by suppressing NTN1 [51].…”
