miRNA-1273g-3p Involvement in Development of Diabetic Retinopathy by Modulating the Autophagy-Lysosome Pathway

Abstract: BackgroundDiabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most common and serious complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). The autophagy-lysosome pathway (ALP) is one of the main intracellular self-digestive degradation systems. Lysosomal impairment and autophagic dysfunction are early events in the pathogenesis of DR, suggesting autophagy might be a novel therapeutic strategy for DR treatment.Material/MethodsIn our study, we screened a differentially expressed miRNA, miR-1273g-3p, in streptozotocin (STZ)-injected DR … Show more

“…lncRNAs and miRNAs were previously demonstrated to be associated with the pathogenesis of DR (1012). Previous findings highlight that the development of DR is associated with various key molecules, such as miR-1273g-3p, miR-21 and miR-29a (1315). Research has elucidated how miRNAs play a pivotal role in the diagnosis of DR (16).…”

“…High expression of miR-1273g-3p has been found in RPE cells extracted from retinas of diabetic rats ( 109 ). MiR-1273g-3p mimic enhanced the expression of DR-related MMP-2, MMP-9, and TNF-α proteins, and autophagy-related LC3II/I, cathepsin B, and cathepsin L factors, while miR-1273g-3p inhibitor could downregulate the levels of these factors.…”

“…Also, using miR‐153‐3p triggers ATG5—another autophagy mediator—and decreases autophagy in order to improve response in gefitinib‐resistant nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients 60 . The miR‐1273g‐3p role in diabetic retinopathy (DR) also makes it potential target in DR treatment 61 …”
