miRNA-1284, a regulator of HMGB1, inhibits cell proliferation and migration in osteosarcoma

Abstract: Previous literatures have reported the role of human micro RNA-1284 (hsa-miR-1284, in short miR-1284) in diverse cancers. However, its biological function in osteosarcoma pathogenesis remains unknown. In the present study, we investigated the potential role of miR-1284 in osteosarcoma. Expression of miR-1284 and high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) were examined in 80 tissues obtained from 40 patients. MiR-1284 level was measured in five osteosarcoma cell lines. Relative luciferase activity and HMGB1 expression w… Show more

“…Earlier reports have revealed that downregulation of HMGB1 could lead to the inhibition of cell proliferation. Results clearly highlight our expectation that downregulation of HMGB1 could be directly related to the proliferation of cervical cancer cells (Wu and Yang 2018;Lv and Guan 2018). It is worth noting that CD59-antibody conjugated formulation exhibited a significantly lower cell viability compared to that of free CDDP.…”

“…For example, miRNA‐21 was found upregulated in osteosarcoma tissues and cells and inhibition of miRNA‐21 could inhibit osteosarcoma cell proliferation . miR‐1284 was proved to be a new regulator to inhibit osteosarcoma cell proliferation and migration …”

“…HMGB1 has been implicated in the pathogenesis and prognosis of PC [19,20]. Meanwhile, it was reported that both miR-1284 and miR-22 function as regulators of HMGB1 expression [21,22]. In addition, GAS5 and HOTAIR play a role as competing endogenous RNAs against miR-1284 and miR-22, respectively [21,23].…”
