Miscible Displacement of Heavy West Sak Crude by Solvents in Slim Tube

Abstract: In enriched gas drives, for correct interpretation of slim tube displacement (STD) tests and for determination of minimum miscibility pressure (MMP) or minimum enrichment (ME) required to achieve dynamic miscibility, it is extremely important to identify the correct mechanism of misciblity development. Traditional, pseudo-ternary diagram construction and limiting tie-line method or the criteria of very high (90-95% plus) ultimate oil recoveries or the criteria of breakover point in ultimate oil recovery versus… Show more

“…This complex phase behavior is also observed for crude oil and gas mixtures, e.g., CO 2 , methane, and enriched separator gas. The LLV equilibria occurrence was reported for light and heavy crude oil systems, usually under low reservoir temperatures conditions with high gas content. For these systems, the influence of LLV on crude oil recovery, , along with their proper representation by process simulators, is still a scientific challenge.…”

“…As stated by Sharma (1990), ЉSTD results and EOS predictions indicate that CO 2 was unable to develop dynamic miscibility with West Sak crude at reservoir pressure and temperature conditionsЉ. Ethane was miscible with the West Sak oil at 600 psi (DeRuiter), while CO 2 failed to achieve miscibility even at pressures as high as 6600 psi (Sharma 1989). In this viscous oil system, liquid ethane is far more effective as an EOR injectant than liquid CO 2 is.…”

“…In other words, over the years, the design of this device has been completed and fabricated in its current form. In this case, there are no perfectly standard dimensions for the slim tube apparatus. …”
