Misremembering the Appearance of Common Objects: Further Cross-Cultural Confirmation

Abstract: The finding that people have surprisingly poor memory for the details of commonly used coins was replicated using a heretofore unstudied currency (the Irish Punt). The accuracy of 241 undergraduates in psychology in identifying a true coin from among a selection of similar fakes was low (41.9%), in line with findings from several other countries.
