Mites and Ticks (Order: Acari)

Abstract

Mites and ticks belong to the phylum Arthropoda, class Arachnida, and order Acari (Acarina). This taxon contains the following two separate lineages: Acariformes (mites) and the Parasitiformes (bird mites, soft -bodied and hard -bodied ticks). FIGURE 164.1.
