“…The genus Libyostrongylus is cited as being found under the koilin layer HUCHZERMEYER, 2005;EDERLI et al, 2008b); however, a recent study by Ederli and Oliveira (2009) observed differential localization of L. douglassii and L. dentatus within the proventriculum. Libyostrongylus douglassii is found on the mucosa just under the koilin layer, as described in the literature, while L. dentatus is found inserted into the koilin layer.…”

“…Libyostrongylus dentatus can be distinguished from congeners by the presence of 3 prominent esophageal teeth ( Figure 2B). Both males and females of L. dentatus are longer than L. douglassii EDERLI et al, 2008b) (Table 2). These 2 species also have differences in the morphology on the cephalic end: L. dentatus has a flat extremity with 3 pairs of rounded cephalic papillae, while L. douglassii has a rounded end with 3 pairs of elongated papillae (EDERLI et al, 2008b).…”

“…Saúde Prod. Anim., Salvador, v.13, n.4, p.1054-1065 (FAYER et al, 2000). De fato, os animais estão mais sujeitos ao parasitismo por Cryptosporidium quando expostos à água de rio, devido ao poder da disseminação hídrica.…”

“…The Libyostrongylus genus belongs to the trichostrongylidae family of nematodes and is found in the proventriculus and ventriculus (gizzard) of ostriches (Hoberg et al, 1995;Ederli et al, 2008a;Ederli & Oliveira, 2009). Infection by these haematophagous nematodes may cause anaemia, weight loss, anorexia, proventriculitis, and 50% mortality in young (Reinecke, 1983) and occasionally in adult birds (Sotiraki et al, 2001).…”
