“…The behaviours of mixing and segregation are generally found in fluidized beds, such as mineral processing, particles combustion, and thermochemical reaction . To explore the segregation and mixing process of particles, many experimental studies have been conducted; for example, the effects of size and density ratio, gas velocity, particles shape, and nozzle diameter on mixing and segregation have been studied …”

“…Spouted beds are frequently adopted as efficient fluid‐particle contactors in industrial processes because they provide good mixing and circulation patterns when beds made up of large and irregular particles are used , such as for granulation, drying, polymerizations, black liquor, pyrolysis, nuclear fuel coating, and gasification due to its high gas‐solid contacting efficiency and the ability to operate the particles with relatively large size and irregular shape . In order to achieve a more effective usage of cylindrical spouted beds in industrial applications, numerous experimental studies were performed to obtain detailed knowledge of gas and particle hydrodynamics . Numerical simulation methods and computational fluid dynamics have become popular in the field of gas‐solid two‐phase flow.…”

“…Szafran et al built a CFD model of heat and mass transfer in a spouted bed dryer with a draft tube. Kiani et al examined the mixing and segregation of binary mixtures of particles with different sizes and densities in a pseudo‐2D spouted bed. They found that that the segregation of solid particles and the time to get equilibrium state both decreased when the air velocity increased to a magnitude much larger than the minimum spouting velocity.…”

“…13 Extensive studies have been conducted on the uidization of binary systems with the same particle size but different densities, or vice versa, indicating that two types of particles in the bed appear as a stratied ow, with a non-uniform particle distribution along the axial and radial directions. 9, [14][15][16] He et al claimed that the relatively larger (or heavier) particles, termed jetsam, tended to be deposited at the bottom of the bed, while the smaller (or lighter) particles, termed otsam, were easily oated on the upper layer of the bed, which is detrimental for heat transfer and chemical reactions in the bed and even leads to the failure of uidization. 17 Girimonte et al proposed a model to predict the uidization velocities and axial concentration proles of binary mixtures, differing in either density or size, by inferring an equilibrium relationship between the xed and the uidized region of the bed during deuidization.…”
