Mixture of Inverse Weibull and Lognormal Distributions: Properties, Estimation, and Illustration

Abstract: We discuss the two-component mixture of the inverse Weibull and lognormal distributions (MIWLND) as a lifetime model. First, we discuss the properties of the proposed model including the reliability and hazard functions. Next, we discuss the estimation of model parameters by using the maximum likelihood method (MLEs). We also derive expressions for the elements of the Fisher information matrix. Next, we demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed model by fitting it to a real data set. Finally, we draw some con… Show more

“…Researches dealing with the method of maximum likelihood estimation of finite mixture models have been studied, for example, by Sultan et al [8] and Sultan and Al-Moisheer [9]. The basic idea of Lindley's [12] approximation for estimation under Type II censoring of the parameters of the mixture model has been investigated by many authors; among others, see Ahmad et al [13] for a mixture of two Weibull distributions and Sultan and Al-Moisheer [14][15][16] in the case of mixture of two inverse Weibull distributions.…”

“…In addition, there are some researches that have discussed the mixtures of two inverse Burr distributions (MTIBD), for example, the works of AlMoisheer [7]. Also, there is a mixture of one of its components which is IWD; see Sultan and Al-Moisheer [8].…”
