Cr3+Fluorescence in Garnets and Other Crystals

Abstract: The results of a study of the sharp-line fluorescence of Cr 3+ in a number of crystals is presented. The host crystals were several diamagnetic garnets, a spinel, and emerald. The results are used to discuss two aspects of the sharp-line energy levels. First, some of the dynamical aspects are considered. The measurements of the temperature dependence of the sharp no-phonon iMine positions, linewidths, and efficiencies are in reasonable agreement with the existing theory. The theory assumes a simple form for th… Show more

“…For the Nd 3 + ions substituting y3+ we havef ~ 0.15 and To ~ 635 ~ K. This is in good agreement with the value To 600 ~ K. Similarly, for the cr 3 + ions which replace a part of A13 + ions in the shell, we havef ~ 0.1 and To ~-575~ while the experimental value is 560 ~ K [46].…”

“…Therefore, many papers describing the optical properties of YAG single crystal doped with Cr 4+ and also Cr 3+ ions can be found [7][8][9][10] However, much less research was carried out on transition metal ions-doped nanocrystalline YAG. The synthesis and optical studies of Co 2+ -doped YAG nanocrystalline powders prepared by sol-gel technique were reported by Sun et al [11].…”
