CP symmetry tests in the cascade-anticascade decay of charmonium

Abstract: We analyze joint angular distributions of a charmonium decay to the ΞΞ pair using the Ξ → Λπ → pπ − π weak decay chain for the cascade and the charge conjugated mode for the anticascade. The decays allow a direct comparison of the baryon and antibaryon decay properties and a sensitive test of CP symmetry in the strange baryon sector. We show that all involved decay parameters can be determined separately in vector and (pseudo)scalar charmonia decays into ΞΞ due to the spin correlations between the weak decay c… Show more

“…processes are determined. The multi-step process enhances the angular correlations between the baryons and antibaryons to such an extent that Ξ and Λ the polarization of the Ξ − Ξ + pair plays a minor role [52]. The comparison of the determined decay parameters for baryons and antibaryons allows for three independent CP symmetry tests reported in Table . 1.…”

“…This is being utilized in an ongoing BESIII study of polarised and entangled Ξ −Ξ+ pairs, employing the formalism outlined in Refs. [17,29]. Furthermore, electromagnetic decays of polarised Σ 0 hyperons provide a test for strong CP violation [30].…”

“…The method was utilised in a recent measurement by the BESIII collaboration in a precision measurement of the Λ decay asymmetry parameters [57] and in the first complete measurement of the Λ time-like structure [41]. The formalism has been extended to include also sequentially decaying spin 1/2 hyperons [60,61] and spin 3/2 baryons [62]. Thepp →ȲY reaction occurs through contributions from many different amplitudes.…”
