Current psychological evaluation processes for prospective adoptive parents lack standardization, leading to inconsistent assessments, potential placement issues, and adverse effects on adopted children well into adulthood. This brief proposes a structured framework for evaluations that includes 10 essential content areas and highlights the risks of inconsistent criteria. By standardizing the content areas of such evaluations, a pathway to more effective and consistent adoption practices can be implemented to improve parent readiness and enhance the well-being of adopted individuals throughout their lifespan.
