Mmpi-2 Profiles of Colombian, Mexican, and Venezuelan University Students

Abstract: Performance of 82 Colombian, 87 Mexican, and 96 Venezuelan university students and adult community dwellers on Spanish translations of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) were compared. Findings suggest more comprehensive research is required on applications of the MMPI-2 in Latin America and greater consideration of the roles of culture and nationality.

“…The greatest value of T-points of scales of the basic profile corresponds to scale F -77.13±2.00T (Figure 1). Such a high value of the profile level indicator on F scale may show unreliable answers or sometimes the need for self-expression among young people with low critical thinking, uncomfortable views, and tendency to conflict behavior (Boscan, Penn, Velasquez, Reimann, Gomez, Guzman, Berry, Infantes, Jaramillo & Romero, 2000). The values of the other T-points of the basic profile are within the upper limit of the norm.…”

“…Additionally, intelligence quotient, social status, and occupational status correlations influence the values reached in inmate population personality profiles (Holcomb & Adams, ; Holcomb, Adams, & Ponder, ; McDonald & Paitich, ). Culture and nationality are also sources of variability in the criminal personality (Boscán et al ., ; Catalá‐Miñana, Walker, Bowen, & Lila, ). More research is required to explain the relation among these variables with the groups studied here.…”

“…Similarly, there are several Spanish-language versions of the MMPI-2 (e.g., for Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the United States). Three published studies have used Spanish-language versions of the MMPI-2 developed for countries other than the United States with U.S. populations (Bosca ´n et al, 2000;Whitworth, 1988).…”
