Mobicast Routing Protocol for Underwater Sensor Networks

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate a mobicast, also called a mobile geocast, problem in three-dimensional (3-D) underwater sensor networks (USNs), which aims to overcome the hole problem and minimizes the energy consumption of the sensor nodes while maximizing the data collection. In this paper, all underwater sensor nodes are randomly distributed in a 3-D underwater environment in the sea to form a 3-D USN. Considered a mobile sink or an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), all possible sensor nodes near the AUV f… Show more

“…However, the problem of redundant transmission exists, which consumes critical underwater resources. Chen et al (2010) propose a new efficient routing protocol named multipath routing (MPR) protocol. In this protocol, multipath is utilized during the path construction from the source node to the destination node, which is composed of a series of multi-subpaths.…”

“…It moves through a predicted path and collects the data from sensor nodes inside the 3D-zone of reference at different times. The purpose how to collect the data inside the 3D-zone of reference while the nodes are in sleep mode, it depends on two phases collection of data and awaking of those specific nodes inside the 3-D zone of reference, so in order to collect the data and avoid the topology holes only those used to make active which propagate their sensed data to AUV and in this way mobicast routing protocol saves the energy of the nodes [11].…”
