Mobile Health App (AGRIPPA) to Prevent Relapse After Successful Interdisciplinary Treatment for Patients With Chronic Pain: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract: Background To facilitate adherence to adaptive pain management behaviors after interdisciplinary multimodal pain treatment, we developed a mobile health app (AGRIPPA app) that contains two behavior regulation strategies. Objective The aims of this project are (1) to test the effectiveness of the AGRIPPA app on pain disability; (2) to determine the cost-effectiveness; and (3) to explore the levels of engagement and usability of app users. … Show more

“…The interest in exploring demoralization and MiL in chronic pain patients with SI arises from the common clinical observation that experiencing chronic pain often requires a revision of one’s life goals and expectations. Different coping mechanisms have been proposed for chronic pain [ 96 , 97 ]. However, the impact of chronic pain is not limited to patients’ biopsychosocial functioning, but it affects the existential domain as well.…”

“…To obtain results, several different questionnaire forms were detected, highlighting a missing common approach. For example, the Telemedicine Usability Questionnaire (TUQ) [36], the Telemedicine Satisfaction Survey (TeSS) [35], the System Usability Scale (SUS) [52,53], and the Telemedicine Satisfaction and Usefulness Questionnaire (TSUQ) [54,55] were identified in the selected articles. These assessments were often integrated with [56] other parameters related to medical outcomes, quality of life, and time saved.…”

“…Another public health benefit of digital health interventions is their ability to prevent the development and recurrence of chronic pain [177][178][179]. For example, patients who experienced musculoskeletal pain (including back pain) for less than 12 weeks had significantly higher odds of preventing chronic pain when using Hinge Health's digital intervention (app-guided physical exercises, education, and virtual consultations), as compared to nonparticipants [177].…”
