Mobile battery‐integrated charging station for reducing electric vehicles charging queue and cost via renewable energy curtailment recovery

Abstract: Summary Today, charging electric vehicles (EVs) from the utility grid has resulted in high electricity costs besides enhanced emissions. On the other hand, increased renewable energy penetration has caused curtailing a considerable share of the produced energy. This paper aims at bridging the gap between these challenges utilizing mobile charging stations (MCS). Integrated with battery energy storage, the MCS shifts the curtailed renewable energy spatially and temporally for EV charging. To this end, a novel m… Show more

“…[1][2][3][4][5] Big cells have longer charging times and create higher temporal demand on the charging stations. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] Not only is the charging time a disadvantage, but these batteries also degrade continuously with higher cycle numbers. [8] This results in an overall reduced lifetime of the battery and a gradual loss in capacity with each cycle.…”

“…The DE is an integrated system that can supply the energy needs such as electricity, heating or cooling using existing local energy sources. Therefore, the coupling of DE and electricity systems is a criterion for the overall improvement of energy and economic efficiency 4 . Some DE advantages are the ability to use low‐cost technologies to meet energy needs and the ability to generate electricity from renewable energy 5 .…”

“…In the event of a disturbance in the network, the microgrid is disconnected from the distribution network and operates as islanded. 4 This ability to create separate islands that continue their operation individually increases the reliability, affordability, quality and security of the grid. The microgrids provide cheap electricity at low prices, they are cost-effective and do not require long transmission lines.…”
