Mobile Social Network Services for Families With Children With Developmental Disabilities

Abstract: As Internet technologies evolve, their applications have changed various aspects of human life. Here, we attempt to examine their potential impact on services for families with developmentally delayed children. Our research is thus designed to utilize wireless mobile communication technologies, location services, and search technology in an effort to match families of specific needs with potential care providers. Based on the investigation conducted by our counselors, this paper describes a platform for smooth… Show more

“…Similarly, the software running on the local mobile devices can collect information and then publish the relevant information to the external websites. Nevertheless, it is a challenge to preserve the user's privacy while minimizing battery consumption in the mobile device, since such devices usually have limited energy supplies [161]. In addition, it is possible for the mobile devices to collect data from their surroundings, in order to detect social interaction patterns by getting information from sensors deployed in vehicles or other mobile devices [162].…”

“…In this context, research especially focuses on identifying users' OSN design requirements. Many studies also focus on OSN design for special purposes such as emergency management (Babu & Singh, 2013;Chou et al, 2011;Plotnick, White, & Plummer, 2009;Zagaar & Paul, 2012). Zagaar and Paul (2012), for example, examine the knowledge sharing behavior of cancer survivors to identify success factors for an online health community, while Babu and Singh (2013) conducted an explorative field study to investigate OSN design improvements for blind persons.…”
