MobileTI

Abstract: We present MobileTI, a portable tele-immersive system that merges 3D video representations of users in real time to enable remote collaboration across geographical distances. With portability as a main goal, we address the challenges in the camera setup, time synchronization, video acquisition, and networking in the design and implementation of the system. Having been deployed in public performances, MobileTI proves to be effective, efficient, and user-friendly. Our experimental findings in terms of technical … Show more

“…The TAM model argues that perceived usefulness is directly related to the user's intention of use. It is the main factor that induces a user to adopt a given system to perform a desired task . Moreover, the model suggests that ease of use is a factor that can contribute to the system utilization by a user; however, the decisive factor is the level of utility (or usefulness) perceived.…”

“…System-level solutions to maximize operational time have already been proposed in the literature [3] [4][5] [6]. However, despite the fact that degradations of perceived multimedia quality prevent technology user adoption [7], this performance parameter has usually been discarded as an optimization goal.…”

“…Some systems offer a free viewpoint on the observed user, enabling only the visual presence of the user [9]. Other systems compute a partial 3D model based on a depth map [10,6,3,13]. It provides a partial visual and geometrical presence (thickness of modeled objects is unknown for instance).…”
