“…The recent findings describe the special role of lipids in germination and seedling growth (Abbade and Takaki, 2012;Soltani et al, 2002). However, the response of seed vigor to fatty acid composition is not clearly known.…”

“…However, seed germination for T. roseoalba is significantly reduced after 60-day storage in the laboratory (Carvalho et al, 2006) and seed viability decreases after 180 days when the seeds are packed in cans and kept in a refrigerator (Borba Filho and Perez, 2009). Loss of viability during storage may be due to a small amount of seed reserves, which is rapidly consumed during germination (Abbade and Takaki, 2012).…”

“…During the germination process, different enzymes are involved in the mobilization and use of seed reserves (Abbade & Takaki 2012;Bettey & Finch-Savage 1996), and their activity is directly affected by the pH of the medium since this factor acts on the kinetics of most enzymes (Orij et al 2009). Thus, seeds soaked in acidic (5.7) and alkaline (7.7 and 8.7) pH in the experiment may have reduced the synthesis and action of enzymes necessary for the germination of Z. tuberculosa seeds, which caused a delay in the process.…”
