Abstract:While sailing offwind, the trimmer typically adjusts the downwind sail "on the verge of luffing", occasionally letting the luff of the sail flap. Due to the unsteadiness of the spinnaker itself, maintaining the luff on the verge of luffing requires continual adjustments.
