Modal and Dynamic Analysis of a Vehicle with Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System

Abstract: A novel kinetic dynamic suspension (KDS) system is presented for the cooperative control of the roll and warp motion modes of off-road vehicles. The proposed KDS system consists of two hydraulic cylinders acting on the antiroll bars. Hence, the antiroll bars are not completely replaced by the hydraulic system, but both systems are installed. In this paper, the vibration analysis in terms of natural frequencies of different motion modes in frequency domain for an off-road vehicle equipped with different configu… Show more

“…The passive KDSS is introduced in engineering application by Toyota Jidosha KK . Zhang et al investigated the function of KDSS through a seven‐degree of freedom (DOF) full‐car model and vertical excitations. Wu et al found that passive KDSS required bigger diameter of torsional rods to provide equivalent roll stiffness yielded by conventional ARB.…”

“…22 , 23 The conventional suspension (CS) with anti-roll bars (ARBs) can improve the roll stability, while the ride comfort would be deteriorated as well. 24 Some advanced passive suspension systems also have been reported to enhance overall performance for both handling and ride comfort. Wu and Zhang 25 presented a kinetic dynamic suspension system which can improve handling and road holding.…”

“…Thus, this anti-oppositional mechanism is unable to balance the contradiction between the roll and warp motions of vehicles. 9 To achieve further modal decoupling, a variety of novel interconnection arrangements, encompassing all four wheel stations either mechanically or hydraulically, have been carried out. Balanced suspension, a mechanical interconnected suspension, was firstly introduced by Zapletal 10,11 in 2000, based on a series of similar interconnected arrangements presented by Ortiz 12 in the 1990s.…”
