Modal cutoff conditions for a waveguide having an annular guiding region with a parabolically graded refractive-index profile

Abstract: An annular dielectric waveguide having a truncated parabolically graded refractive‐index profile in the guiding region has been analytically studied for cutoff conditions. The thickness effect of the annular guiding region on the cutoff values of the z‐component of the propagation constant for some lower order modes has been studied for some special cases. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
