Model-Based Design and Simulation of Paraxial Ray Optics Systems

Abstract: A model-based design allows representing complex, multi-domain systems as interconnected functional blocks, yielding graphical, intuitive information about the overall project, besides simplifying simulation. This work proposes using the modular approach as an optical engineering design and educational tool for developing paraxial ray optics setups, providing further integration with mechatronics subsystems and control loops. An expanded version of the ABCD transfer matrix modeling is implemented in MATLAB Sim… Show more

“…The aim is to guarantee a continuous workflow between a process stage and the following one, overcoming the weaknesses of a trial-and-error approach [2]. Among the several SE methodologies, the Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) [3] is one of the most implemented; instead of using document-based information interchange as its primary method, it focuses on developing and utilizing domain models [4,5].…”

“…The Simscape module based on the Matlab Simulink platform provides a convenient block diagram based operating environment for modeling and simulation, which has gradually become mainstream commercial software for multi-physics mechanism analysis [27]. The NABE-RE presented in this study is mainly composed of two kinds of physics: hydraulic physics and rigid-body physics.…”
