Model of depositing layer on cylindrical surface produced by induction-assisted laser cladding process

Abstract: Abstract:A model of hybrid cladding on a cylindrical surface is built and numerically solved. Heating of both substrate and the powder material to be deposited on its surface is realized by laser beam and preheating inductor. The task represents a hard-coupled electromagnetic-thermal problem with time-varying geometry. Two specific algorithms are developed to incorporate this effect into the model, driven by local distribution of temperature and its gradients. The algorithms are implemented into the COM-SOL Mu… Show more

“…Laser cladding technology is used for the formation of cladding coating with excellent properties such as corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, wear resistance as well as fatigue resistance on low-performance and low-cost steel to meet various harsh requirements [21,[25][26][27][28][29]. Moreover, it reduces cost, minimizes overuse of scarce and precious materials, reduces energy consumption, reduces pollution, and improves the service life of metal parts.…”

“…Heating with a pre-running inductor makes it possible to preheat the substrate simultaneously with the welding process. This device with a single coil winding is used, for instance, during the automatic process of cladding rotationally symmetrical components by [10,11] but also flat workpieces [12] where cracks, peeling off of deposited tracks and other surface damage was prevented. If the geometry of the workpiece permits, internal field heating with an encompassing inductor is also possible to achieve welds without cracks [13].…”
