Model predictive control for flexible power consumption of large-scale refrigeration systems

Abstract: Abstract-A model predictive control (MPC) scheme is introduced to directly control the electrical power consumption of large-scale refrigeration systems. Deviation from the baseline of the consumption is corresponded to the storing and delivering of thermal energy. By virtue of such correspondence, the control method can be employed for regulating power services in the smart grid. The proposed scheme contains the control of cooling capacity as well as optimizing the efficiency factor of the system, which is in… Show more

“…Trabajos más recientes utilizan control predictivo para la gestión de sistema de refrigeración. Por ejemplo, Shafiei et al presenta un esquema de control MPC para minimizar las desviaciones de consumo de energía eléctrica respecto a un consumo de referencia en una planta de refrigeración de gran escala [21]. Para ello utiliza la energía cargada y descargada del PCM, introduciendo en el problema de optimización una referencia de la temperatura de evaporación como una variable manipulable ficticia.…”

“…This involved building a mathematical model of the temperature dynamics of the room, and combining this model with statistical methods allows us to compute the heating load due to occupants and equipment using only a single temperature sensor. A model predictive control (MPC) scheme was proposed for flexible power consumption of refrigeration systems (Shafiei, Stoustrup, & Rasmussen, 2014), which directly controlled the electrical power consumption of largescale refrigeration systems. A high performance for the power regulation and control for the refrigerator system was obtained by the MPC algorithm.…”

“…Other influences on the COP are evaporation temperature and mass flow out of the evaporators as stated by Shafiei et al [2014]. The evaporation temperature is constant in this work due to the constant suction pressure.…”
