Model Proposal for Integrating VR/AR Technologies in Building Construction Project in Architecture Education During Covid-19

Abstract: Information technologies including VR/AR; by providing an immersive environment, contain wide range of innovative opportunities in architecture education, particularly for the Covid-19 pandemic that forced online education. Recent literature reviews show the increase on the adaptation of VR/AR technologies in architecture education, since it improves learners’ outcomes and tutors-learners’ interactions. However, implication of these technologies is frequently seen in design studios, whereas building constructi… Show more

“…Unlike our proposed study that integrates learning style element into the mobile VR and analyses its influences, this research focused on manipulating emotions, its impacts on knowledge retention, and high immersion as a potential technology in enhancing the influence of emotions. 28 Güray and Kısmet 29 proposed a model to integrate VR or AR (Augmented Reality) technologies in building construction education. Their proposed model highlighted the advantages of the creative use of VR/AR tools through integrating the Building Information Modelling tools in distance learning particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic conditions, but the VR/AR technology mentioned was not mobile supported and rather desktop based.…”

“…to train construction workers in more accessible and safer environments (Pottle and Robertson 2018;Güray and Kısmet 2022). An example is the study conducted by Hong et al (Hong et al 2023) researchers assessed the impact of construction noise exposure on the productivity of masonry work, a labour-intensive sector.…”

“…Augmented Reality (AR) is a digitally augmented version of reality that combines physical and digital elements to create real-time interactive experiences (Chen et al 2019;Güray and Kısmet 2022;Nigam and C 2022). Gramazio Kohler's research group developed Augmented Bricklaying in 2020 to explore the manual construction of intricate brickwork through AR.…”
