Modeling, analysis, and performance evaluation of a robotic gripper system for limp material handling

Abstract: This paper presents an analytical model of a flat surfaced robotic gripper designed to automate the process of reliable, rapid and distortion-free limp material handling. The designed gripper prototype is integrated with an industrial robot manipulator. The gripper geometry and its grasp stability are justified. Performance of the overall system is experimentally tested, based on a set of industry dictated operational constraints. It is found that the gripper system has high reliability, grasp stability, and t… Show more

“…Kolluru et al [11] have developed a vacuum gripper that has a flat bottom surface constituting a matrix of holes for suction purposes. A variety of modified configurations have been developed based on it, with intelligent control integrated [12,13]. The biggest limitation for a vacuum gripper is due to the air permeability of fabric materials.…”

“…In North America, Kolluru et al (1998Kolluru et al ( , 2000a) developed a new robot gripper system to automate handling of limp fabrics. His design was a flat-surfaced fix-dimensioned gripper that followed the principles of pressure differential to create suction that could assist with fabric manipulation.…”
