Modeling and Analysis of Beams With Delamination

Abstract: In this paper, a mathematical model for beams with partially delaminated layers is presented to investigate their behavior. In this formulation account is taken of lateral strains. The principal advantage of the element is that it allows the modeling of delamination anywhere in the structure. Numerical results of the present model are presented and its performance is evaluated for static problems.

“…For the clamped-free and clamped-clamped beams, the deflections computed by Eqs. ( 10)-( 13) are compared to those obtained by the use of a FE model by Mahieddine and Ouali [10], Mahieddine and Ouali [11]. The results are presented in Tables 1 and 2, respectively.…”

“…The elements in the delaminated region and region without delamination are derived separately, and all the variables in the displacement field are independent. However, the continuity conditions must be imposed to ensure the continuity of displacements along the delaminated front [8,9].…”

“…65 The contact between the delamination faces was captured by FEM in Perel [66][67][68] recently. Finally, but not least, there are papers analyzing delaminated beams with piezoelectric actuators 69,70 and investigating damping and dispersion characteristics. 71,72 For delaminated beams many parametric studies have been published, including effect of delaminations on the mode shapes in composite [73][74][75][76][77][78] and sandwich beams.…”
