Modeling and Fatigue Characteristic Analysis of the Gear Flexspline of a Harmonic Reducer

Abstract: The failure of harmonic gear drive is mainly caused by the fatigue fracture of flexible wheels and the fatigue damage of flexible bearings. In this paper, the stress sensitivity and fatigue life characteristics of flexible wheels with thin-walled vulnerable components are studied. Firstly, the structure of the flexible wheel of a B3-80 general harmonic gear reducer is designed, the finite element model of the flexible wheel is established by using ANSYS finite element software, and the finite element analysis … Show more

“…Through the relentless efforts of scholars, fatigue research has evolved into a comprehensive system that can be applied to engineering practice and has become a leading research area, largely through the utilization of finite element simulation analysis software. Fatigue simulation calculations enable the determination of the minimum number of cycles in different parts of the simulation model and the visualization of the fatigue life distribution on the object's surface using a cloud map on the model [16][17][18][19]. Computer-aided engineering (CAE) is a virtual simulation that accurately responds to load stress and can provide precise simulations of fatigue endurance life [20][21][22][23][24].…”

“…Computer-aided engineering (CAE) is a virtual simulation that accurately responds to load stress and can provide precise simulations of fatigue endurance life [20][21][22][23][24]. Chiriţă P. A. et al [19] analyzed the effects of variable pressure on the life of hydraulic gear pumps using modern numerical simulation tools (CAE and CAD). Their study presents the results of static and dynamic analysis (fatigue) as well as experimentation, validating these simulations.…”

“…The fatigue life of the harmonic drive was calculated using the fourth strength theory. Yang et al [8] studied the stress characteristics and fatigue life of the FS in B3-80 harmonic drive by developing a finite element model and investigating the influence of structural parameters such as cylinder length and wall thickness. Previous researchers have provided valuable references for stress analysis and lifespan evaluation of the FS in a harmonic drive.…”

“…The above method is easy to apply to bearings with simple shapes, as inertial and radial flow are ignored. In contrast, commercial CFD software is gradually becoming an important basis for predicting the static properties of bearings [33] because of the advantages of predicting three-dimensional flow [34][35][36][37] and its applicability to complex geometries [38][39][40][41]. It should be emphasized that the flow in the gap between two concentric cylindrical surfaces is known as Taylor-Couette flow.…”
