Abstract:Much of our current understanding of the development and maintenance of blood vessels in mammals comes from the analysis of mice. We summarize our current understanding of the developmental, cell, and molecular biology of blood vessel formation both in the mouse embryo and postnatally. The reader is provided with an understanding of how this information may impact on our ability to control blood vessel formation for the management of human cancers.
