This article presents investigations performed on a 25 kV AC system with a Scott transformer simulation model. The model includes an energy quality parameter calculation algorithm with consideration to the train timetable. The simulation results enable an analysis of the energy quality parameters at the point of connection of the traction substation to the supplying grid. The presented tool enables the simultaneous calculation of voltage unbalance and harmonic content. The article presents the results of the energy quality analysis at the substation connection point for the specific location. The simulation results of the energy quality parameters are appraised on the basis of standard EN 50160:2010. The tool may prove helpful in the process of designing electrification systems, especially in the choice of traction transformer and power electronics device mitigating an imbalance and harmonic impact.

This study describes characteristics and behavior of transient current during Multiple lightning strokes on train's pantograph of 2×25 kV AC, 50 Hz Catenary Contact System. 25 kV AC, 50 Hz Catenary Contact System on double-track elevated railway system which connects Suvarnabhumi Airport to central Bangkok (Phayathai, Makkasan) was used in the study. The characteristics of transient current in term of its magnitude, front times and tail times affected by Multiple lightning strokes were studied. The assumption of studies based on the return Multiple lightning strokes current ranging 1-200 kA, front time of multiple lightning strokes between 1-3 μs, elevated pole resistance of 50 Ω and grounding resistance of 5 Ω. The Behaviour of transient current when the pantograph is at the Mast (4 th Mast) for Case 1 and at the mid-span of Masts (3 rd and 4 th Masts) for Case 2 were also studied. The Catenary Contact System on elevated railway system with a train and multiple lightning strokes were modeled in ATPDraw software. Transient current of negative multiple lightning strokes showed flashovers across insulators in any magnitude and waveform for Case 1 and Case 2. The improved protection for Catenary Contact System should consider the effects of negative multiple lightning strokes.

Power quality (PQ) is becoming important factor in proper functioning and operating of power systems (PS). Continuous PQ monitoring represents basics for efficient exploitation of power systems. Systems for continuous PQ monitoring and their networking with central system are major investments. This paper lists conditions for modeling of certain PS elements and describes concept of power network modeling in PQ analysis. First part of the paper gives mathematical formulation of the problem; second part describes high voltage transmission line in frequent domain using system of phase values, while the third part of the paper is an example in time domain modeled in EMTP-RV software package using system of phase values. Performance of power network in quasi-stationary state is analyzed and during the simulation five changes of voltage conditions occur as consequence of overloading. The PS is loaded with nonlinear loads generating high current and voltage harmonics. Voltage and current harmonic in the places of energy exchange are observed; furthermore estimation of voltage harmonics in the places with no PQ monitors is conducted. Conclusions of the paper indicate possible usage of presented algorithm for real time PQ analysis and for post PQ analysis.
