Modeling of Energy Efficiency of a Turboprop Engine using Ant Colony Optimisation

Abstract: Exergy efficiency can be used as an objective function in order to improve systems efficiency. Thus, the most efficient regions for the operation parameters can be searched easily. Exergy efficiency data of a turboprop engine’s components that have been calculated using basic engine parameters in the previous studies are modeled using cubic spline curve fitting methodology. Spline curves are on the two dimensional plane, where x axis is the input parameter and y axis is the exergy efficiency of the component. … Show more

“…Hybrid methods generally take robust sides of the particular algorithms and combine them together have applied ACO algorithm on turbine rotor balancing and turboprop engine energy efficiency modeling studies Piskin et al (2017Piskin et al ( , 2019. The same ACO algorithm and parameters have been used in the ACOPSO hybrid algorithm.…”

“…Performance calculations of turbojet engines are well-known, but accurate calculations require detailed information about the components (Mattingly, 2002; Cohen et al , 1995; Walsh and Fletcher, 1998; Reffold, 1995; Kurzke, 1995). Some researchers used regression methods for modeling thrust and fuel flow consumption (Baklacioglu, 2015a, 2015b, 2016, 2017, 2021; Piskin et al , 2019; Oruc and Baklacioglu, 2020a, 2020b, 2021; Oruc et al , 2020) without going internal component details. There are also many optimization studies performed at on-design conditions.…”

“…There are many studies in the literature on performance and thermodynamic analysis of turboprop engines (Atilgan et al, 2013;Aydin et al, 2012bAydin et al, , 2013bAydin et al, , 2012aAydin et al, , 2013aBaklacioglu et al, 2015Baklacioglu et al, , 2016Baklacioglu et al, , 2018Baklacioglu et al, , 2019Balli, 2017;Balli andHepbasli, 2013, 2014;Piskin et al, 2020). In the article created by Aydin et al (2013aAydin et al ( , 2013b, one of the mentioned studies, sustainability concepts were examined and discussed in detail to better understand the sustainability performances of a turboprop aircraft.…”
