Modeling of multiport DC busses in power-electronic systems

Abstract: Abstract-This paper deals with dynamic modeling of multiport DC busses, which are increasingly applied in various DCpower distribution systems, such as hybrid powertrains and DC microgrids. Parasitic impedances of long DC cabling together with distributed DC capacitors introduce a potential risk of smallsignal instabilities in the DC bus, if resonance frequencies of the bus appear below (or around) switching frequencies of powerelectronic converters. In order to predict the resonance behavior of the bus, a sys… Show more

“…The impact of the time delay on the DC-side admittance has been neglected in most cases [1,5]. In [2,6,7], the time delay has been modelled, but the effect of different switching frequencies on the DC-side admittance was not considered. The value of the switching frequency is important, because it determines the switching losses of the converter.…”

“…Wang, Saha, and Zane [25] analyze the stability of an SRC with CC output being regulated in considering the cable effect, but only discuss the influence of small current fluctuation on the steady-state, whereas heavy load changes are not considered. Due to the presence of parasitic parameters such as the capacitance Electronics 2020, 9,307 3 of 18 and inductance on long cables [25][26][27], the dynamic response of a long-cable CC system is relatively slow and the mentioned CC/CV methods may face challenges such as voltage oscillation or instability especially when heavy load change occurs [19]. The relatively low stability leads to relatively low reliability.…”

“…There have been some reports regarding topics dealing with the harmonic analysis of an inverter towards the dc bus [8–16]. For instance, in [8] a general impedance approach is utilised to find out the form of the spectrum.…”
