Modeling on Actuation Behavior of Macro-Fiber Composite Laminated Structures Based on Sinusoidal Shear Deformation Theory

Abstract: A new piezoelectric composite, macro fiber composite (MFC) is recombined with piezoceramic fibers, an epoxy resin basal body, and an interdigitated electrode. It has been widely applied in vibration reduction and deformation control of thin-walled structures, due to its great deformability and flexibility. Research on its actuation performance is mostly concentrated on the MFC actuating force calculation based on classical plate theory (CPT), and the overall modeling of MFC and its structure. However, they hav… Show more

“…Nevertheless, its defects are not to be ignored, including weak flexibility, crisp texture, and poor application to curved surface structures [ 10 , 11 ]. As a result, PZT has been gradually replaced by a new piezoelectric fiber smart material—the macro fiber composite (MFC) [ 12 ], which is more applicable to sandwich structures with the advantages of strong flexibility, great output, light mass, easy installation, and long durability [ 13 ].…”

“…During flight, when normal loadings are applied, the patches work as energy harvesters by maintaining or restoring the battery charge of the stand-by SHM electronic board. If With reference to actuation capabilities, the MFC technology shows better performance and durability compared to other piezo-ceramic solutions, and can be used for both high and low frequency applications [28][29][30]. In the aerospace field, significant research efforts have been made on high frequency applications, with particular reference to vibration control [31,32] and wing ice protection systems [33].…”
