Abstract:Taupathies are a group of neurodegenerative diseases characterized by the accumulation of tau-protein in the brain, causing clinical dementia. Tau protein stabilizes microtubules and regulates axonal transport, however, when hyper-phosphorylated, aggregates in the brain. Taupaties can be divided into primary and secondary (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease). Experimental animal models models are an important tool to study taupathies. Here, we discuss molecular mechanisms of taupathies and their existing experimental m… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
