Abstract:In automated lane-free traffic, vehicles can choose any arbitrary lateral location. This enables vehicle flocking where, compared to platooning, the grouping of vehicles is possible with smaller space gaps, not only longitudinally but also laterally. Vehicle flocking can fulfill several purposes, such as increasing the road capacity, saving energy by reducing the aerodynamic drag force, and dampening shockwaves. Within this paper, we develop a control framework for modeling vehicle flocks in automated lane-fre… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
