Modelling and dynamic analysis of a MEMS ring resonator supported by circular curved shaped inner beams

Abstract: Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) based ring shaped resonators usually have a ring supported by spoke shaped springs. In this paper, we developed a general analytical model that can determine the natural frequency of any MEMS ring resonator considering effective mass and stiffness of spokes in both radial and tangential displacements. Our model is also able to determine the stiffness of the circular curved beam with arbitrary central angle. The well-known energy based Castigliano’s method was used to calcu… Show more

“…Thereafter, significant improvements of the analyses of Zener have been put forth by various researchers. Since then and up to recent times, they are also used to analyze the vibrational aspects and TED of several types of structures like rings, cylinders, beams, resonators, plates, layered structures, etc., as can be seen in the works of Lifshitz and Roukes [16], Li et al [17], Zuo et al [18], Kumar and Mukhopadhyay [19], Weng et al [20], Ranji et al [21], Barati and Zenkour [22], Sobhy and Zenkour [23], etc. More recently, TED and FS were analyzed by Zhou and Li [24], Guha and Singh [25], Abouelregal and Sedighi [26], Guha and Singh [27], Qin et al [28], etc.…”

“…With the continuous improvement of the automation level of mechanical systems, their system complexity is also constantly increasing [1], and higher requirements are also put forward for system reliability. For complex mechanical equipment, whether in its design and manufacturing stages [2], or in its operation and maintenance stages, equipment reliability is a key performance indicator that designers and users are concerned about. In multiple fields such as industry and transportation, the reliability and safety of equipment are important success factors in improving availability and preventing catastrophic failures.…”
