Modelling and simulation of cross flow grain dryers

Abstract: A mathematical model, algorithm, and computer program were developed to simulate the performance of cross flow grain dryers and cross flow dryers with energy saving. The mass and heat transfer processes were described by a system of four non-linear partial differential equations. This system of equations was solved by the MacCormack method with time splitting. The Neumann method was used to determine convergence. The sourceterms in these equations were computed by auxiliary semi-empirical equations obtained by… Show more

“…, ρ a is the density of dry air (kg.m −3 ) and ρ p is the density of product (kg.m −3 ). In [5], the mass and heat transfer processes during the drying of soya beans in a continuous cross-flow dryer with three drying stages and cooling chamber were described by a system of four order non-linear partial differential equations. The system is shown below:…”

“…The model can be applied to construct effective drying processes. A mathematical model for cross flow grain dryers was developed by Khatchatourian et al [15] to simulate the dryer performance with and without air recirculation. Different dryer outlines were investigated with a variable number of airflow stages considering co-current and counter-current flow.…”

“…Both natural and artificial drying involve interaction between the product and the environment via heat and mass transfer. Transfer intensity and gradient formation can qualitatively alter the final product, depending on the drying conditions used (Nádvorníková et al, 2018;Defendi et al, 2016;Khatchatourian et al, 2013).…”
