Abstract:Full text: While "classical" loudness models predict loudness in sone using the concepts of Stevens' compressive power law, (subdivided) categorical loudness perception after Heller follows the compressive logarithmic Weber-Fechner law. To bridge the gap between both approaches, this contribution reviews various steps towards a loudness model that predicts categorical loudness (in categorical units, CU) for normal and hearing-impaired listeners for arbitrary sounds. It uses a (modified) classical loudness mode… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
