Modelling climate‐change impacts on stream temperature of Formosan landlocked salmon habitat

Abstract: Abstract:A physics-based model is provided for predicting the impact of climate change on stream temperature and, in turn, on Formosan landlocked salmon (Oncorhynchus masou formosanus) habitat. Because upstream watersheds on Taiwan Island are surrounded with high and steep mountains, the influence of mountain shading on solar radiation and longwave radiation is taken into account by using a digital elevation model. Projections using CGCM2 and HADCM3 models and CCCM and GISS models provided information on futur… Show more

“…Variation in streamflow during a year and between years is primarily related to variations in rainfall, but the watershed as a whole provides a partial buffering of the rainfall signal. Van Noordwijk et al (2004a) proposed a simple buffer indicator calculated as the ratio of the sum of daily discharges above the average discharge and the sum of daily rainfall above the average rainfall. This can be done over a hydrological year, or part thereof.…”

“…The monthly temperature and precipitation for climate scenarios were determined by using equations recommended by Tung et al (2006) as follows. mT,Current ) and ( mP,Future ł mP,Current ) are the mean monthly change in temperature (T,°C) and precipitation (R P , %) for different scenarios compared to the baseline period , respectively.…”
