Modelling energy production flexibility: system dynamics approach

Abstract: District heating networks are commonly addressed in the literature as one of the most effective solutions for decreasing the greenhouse gas emissions from the building sector. These systems require high investments which are returned through the heat sales. Due to the changed climate conditions and building renovation policies, heat demand in the future could decrease, prolonging the investment return period. The main scope of this paper is to assess the feasibility of using the heat demand -outdoor temperatur… Show more

“…5). Effects of technological disruption removing barriers for power production from intermittent RES technologies have been demonstrated quantitatively by using a conceptual system dynamics model [84]. The stock-and-flow model demonstrates the effect of a positive feedback decreasing unit costs of RES power production as a result of learning effects.…”

“…While in energy transition modelling, Gravelsins et al (2018) modelled the energy transition towards low carbon energy systems, which imitate the effects of technological disruption on raising the limits of intermittent power production from renewable sources that can be integrated into power systems. Shafiei et al (2015) developed an integrated system-dynamics model of energy systems to explore the transition process towards alternative fuel markets such as hydrogen and biofuels in Iceland with implications for fuel demand, fuel prices and required supply infrastructure.…”

“…Saavedra et al [421] presented a study of applications of Sustainable development approaches in RE. Gravelsins et al [422] discussed that how SDM can be applied in modelling the power systems. Najafi et al [423] applied a novel approach for medium-term management of an energy system.…”
