Modelling hysteresis of soft core materials using permeance-capacitance analogy for transient circuit simulations

Abstract: Magnetic components using soft core materials are widely used in power electronic converters. The hysteresis effect of the material leads to power loss and harmonic distortion. If this effect can be modeled in system-level time-domain simulation, the performance of the magnetic component in combination with power converters can be predicted more accurately during the design phase. This work proposes an approach to model the hysteresis effect of soft magnetic materials in magnetic circuits based on the permeanc… Show more

“…Authors of [9] proposed Cauchy-Lorentz PDF for the distribution function p s , which was further applied by the work of [10], [11] and [12] for modeling of soft magnetic materials. A parameter identification scheme using genetic algorithm has been presented in [13].…”

“…Following the approach proposed in the work of [12], the nonlinear permeances depending on field strength H are provided as the summation of an irreversible component P irr k and a reversible component P rev k , scaled by the geometrical parameters of the individual sublaminates (∆h k , w and l in Fig. 3a).…”

“…Magnetic circuits based on permeance-capacitance analogy introduced by [8] are able to represent complex core geometry intuitively, and have been proved to be practical for system-level circuit simulation in the work 978-1-5386-1180-7/18/$31.00 ©2018 IEEE of [9], [10] and [11]. The magnetic hysteresis of soft material can be accurately captured via incorporating Preisach model [12]. Thanks to its gyrator structure to interface the electrical part of the model, the magnetic circuit can be simulated in its original form directly.…”
