Abstract:We present numerical results of a propagating hydraulic fracture in weak rock formations. The results were obtained from a Finite Element Hydraulic Fracturing model which simulates all the involved non-linear and coupled processes. The fracture is driven by pumping of an incompressible viscous fluid with Newtonian rheology. The fracturing fluid leak-off in the host rock formation is also considered. For propagation criterion a cohesive-softening model is implemented in interface finite elements and the bulk ro… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
