Modelling of Technological Parameters of Aluminium Melt Refining in the Ladle by Blowing of Inert Gas through the Rotating Impeller

Abstract: The presented paper deals with the use of physical modelling to study the degassing process of aluminium melts in the refining ladle by blowing inert gas through a rotating impeller. For the purposes of physical modelling, a plexiglass model in a scale of 1:1 is used for the operating ladle. Part of the physical model is a hollow shaft used for gas supply that is equipped with an impeller and two baffles. The degassing process of aluminium melt by blowing of inert gas is simulated at physical modelling by a de… Show more

“…The beverage can has undergone many design changes over time, adopting its current shape and weight, which represents a great advance in terms of the design and production technologies developed [ 7 , 21 ]. Today’s choice of nonferrous metal packaging is determined primarily by the lightness of the material, good strength properties, ease of recycling of the alloy used or disposal of the additional components that comprise the can [ 7 , 8 , 22 ]. In the recycling process, incineration is the most used method to remove the manufactured protective coatings.…”

“…Another equally important factor is the selection of process parameters such as gas flow rate and rotor speed [ 11 , 12 ]. A well-designed gas injection system for liquid metal meets two key requirements; it causes rapid mixing of the liquid metal to maintain a uniform temperature throughout the volume and during the entire process, to produce a chemically homogeneous metal composition.…”

“…Another task of the slag is to ensure the ideal course of chemical reactions and the absorption of non-metallic inclusions from the melt. To control the flow of steel from the tundish, each casting strand is equipped with a stopper rod or a slide valve [1,2].…”

“…In the numerical model, the prototype is replaced by a mathematical model, which consists of a system of partial differential equations. In the case of physical modeling, the prototype is replaced by a physical model that has the same physical behavior [1,2]. Numerical modelling is suitable for optimizing the steel flow in the tundish.…”
