Abstract:We formulate and analyse a stochastic epidemic model for the dynamics of rabies in both humans and stray dogs. The stochastic model, a continuous-time Markov chain, is based on the corresponding deterministic model. Analytical results show that the disease-free equilibrium is both locally and globally asymptotically stable and the endemic equilibrium is locally stable. The stochastic threshold for rabies extinction is computed using the Galton-Watson branching process and conditions for disease extinction or p… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
