Modern Demographics, Oncologic Outcomes, and Prognostic Factors in Women With Inflammatory Breast Cancer

Abstract: Purpose/Objective(s): Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is an aggressive subtype of breast cancer. The current treatment paradigm is trimodality approach with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, modified radical mastectomy (MRM), and post-mastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT). “…26 However, in our study this variable was not significant at any levels of the analyses of BCSD and OCSD. ER (þ) and PR (þ) have been considered as protective factors for the prognosis of IBC in most previous studies, 3,6,24,27 which is also supported by the present study. HER-2 is a proto-oncogene located on chromosome 17 that is overexpressed in approximately 30% of breast cancers and is associated with a more-aggressive breast cancer phenotype.…”

“…Moreover, race was found to be an independent predictor of BCSD, which was consistent with the findings of previous studies. 6,15,16 In this study, the risk of BCSD was 1.563 times (95%CI, 1.257 -1.944) in black patients as in white patients. This might be due to the worse overall economic status and access to health care of blacks.…”
