Modern divulge in production optimization: an implementation framework of LARG manufacturing with Industry 4.0

Abstract: Purpose In the modern manufacturing environment, it is imperative to apply the manufacturing concepts of lean, agile, resilient and green, collectively known as LARG manufacturing, to achieve excellence in which lean manufacturing eliminates wastes; agile manufacturing makes processes fast, efficient and flexible; resilient paradigm deals with countering the uncertainty while green manufacturing improves environmental performance. The objective of this study is to develop an integration framework that synergiz… Show more

“…A deeper study on it does indicate a degree of overlap in application areas. An integration framework of LARG (lean, agile, resilient and green) industry and I4.0 has been developed (Amjad et al, 2021) for achieving faster and more efficient manufacturing processes. Another conceptual framework, (Vinodh et al, 2021) integrating continuous improvement strategies (lean, lean six sigma, kaizen and sustainability) with I4.0 (IoT and CPS) was developed to highlight the advantages and disadvantages in manufacturing processes.…”

“…Lean Six Sigma is a performance improvement strategy that focuses on a collaborative team effort to eliminate waste and reduce variance. Defects, Over-Production, Waiting, Non-Utilized Talent, Transportation, Inventory, Motion, and Extra-Processing are among the eight types of waste that can be eliminated using a combination of lean manufacturing/lean enterprise and Six Sigma (Amjad et al, 2021). Lean Six Sigma is a methodology for reducing process defects and waste while also providing a foundation for changing an organization's culture.…”

“…According to Amjad et al (2021), before for companies to obtain solid results from Industry 4.0, it is important that they have properly implemented concepts of lean, agile, resilient and green, known as LARG. When focusing on the implementation of digitalization associated with Industry 4.0, Ghobakhloo (2020) highlights that the first step should be the evaluation of benefits for company when performing this implementation.…”
